Green cardamom
Location: Southern Turkey
Botanical classification: Zingiberaceae family
Cardamom is an exotic plant of the Zingiberaceae family (just like turmeric and ginger) that loves water and warmth, but only moderately sunlight.
There are 2 types of cardamom: green, which is the most fragrant, and brown, which is mainly used in spice blends, particularly curries.
When the plant blooms, the flowers are pollinated by insects and then turn into fruits.
The fruits are harvested when they are green and striped, then dried for consumption.
Pairings:
Cardamom reveals warm, spicy notes of lemon and eucalyptus. Widely used in India in curries and tea, as well as in the Middle East where it is consumed in fruit-based desserts and added to ground coffee for an extraordinary taste experience.
You can also incorporate it into your homemade jams (delicious with pears!)
Finally, it also pairs perfectly with lamb.
Health benefits:
In addition to its antispasmodic and carminative properties, cardamom is a powerful digestive stimulant (used as an infusion after meals).
Furthermore, its acidic properties allow it to relieve stomach pains.
Finally, chewing a few seeds gives you fresh breath and reduces garlic odor.
