Homemade meatballs with cumin and smoked paprika

Boulettes de viande maison au cumin et paprika fumé

A simple and flavorful recipe inspired by Eastern cuisines, where cumin, coriander, and paprika enhance tender meatballs simmered in a spicy tomato sauce. A convivial dish, easy to prepare, ideal with rice, fresh pasta, or toasted bread.

Ingredients for 4 people:

  • 500g ground beef

  • 1 onion

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • A handful of flat-leaf parsley

  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds (coarsely crush in a mortar)

  • Spices: cumin (1 tsp), sumac (1/2 tsp), ginger (1 tsp), 1 pinch of salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce:

  • A small carton of tomato passata

  • Hot paprika

Steps:

  1. In a food processor, mix the meat, onion, garlic, herbs, and spices.

  2. Once well chopped and homogeneous, form golf-ball sized meatballs with your hands.

  3. In a sauté pan, melt a mixture of butter and oil.

  4. Once hot, brown the meatballs on all sides.

  5. Reduce the heat and add the tomato passata and hot paprika.

  6. Let simmer gently for about 15 minutes.
